Little Heartbreaker Turns One!

Happy February ya’ll! It’s the month of love, and what better way to celebrate a little one who’s birthday happens to fall right around Valentines day, than a heartbreaker theme! I had so much fun with this one. I not only got to find all the decorations for the cutest party, but got to also help bring this party to life for a fun little guys first birthday!

Since this particular party was created for a little boy, we decided to omit all the pinks and stick to red, black and white as the main color scheme. As you can see in the mood board, a few things were ordered that included pink, but I tweaked those a little when they arrived. I’ll explain!

Starting with the balloon arch- I found the perfect valentine-ish arch kit on amazon that could be easily tweaked to swap out the pink balloons for black. In addition, I ordered a small pack of plain black balloons to throw in! The arch kit itself did come with red heart shape balloons, which I ended up using in addition to a pack I also got from Hobby Lobby as “floater” heart balloons for the floor. This is totally optional if you don’t want the extra balloons laying around! I used a balloon pump to blow up all the arch balloons- some bundles the day before the party, but most the morning of. All in all, the arch probably took an hour total to make and hang! Not too bad at all.

I got a big red “1” balloon- a must in my opinion! I used leftover balloons from the arch kit to make a bundle of balloons to tie to the bottom of the 1 to add a little more to it, and give it a base of stability for decoration. Super easy statement piece that adds quite a bit to the overall asthetic!

I found the most perfect red heart backdrop from Hobby Lobby (super affordable, especially if you go during their 50% off sale days!) and hung that up on the wall behind the kitchen table. These were super easy to hang up with just tape, and added some red XOXO balloons (purchased on amazon) and a “love” balloon that came with the balloon arch kit. This was a fun little additive and made a great background for pictures of the kiddos while they ate their brunch and cupcakes!

For both the table and the countertop where food was served, I made my own table runner out of a roll of craft paper and painted on X’s and O’s with regular black craft paint! The idea came from pinterest, and was overall more affordable than purchasing table cloths. I think it looks cuter and less cluttery than a table cloth as well! We decided to keep it simple with table decorations and found this little cupid, heart and arrow wooden decoration set that fit our theme perfectly. Since the kit came with pink hearts and arrows, I painted those ones over with black paint to better match. Super quick and easy, and ended up looking great with the rest of the decorations!

In addition to the X’s and O’s table runner for the countertop food spread, I found some little heart shaped cupcake toppers on amazon that were a fun little addition. Then I got the heart tableware set that came with all the knives, forks and spoons, as well as two different size plates, napkins, and cups. This set was perfect for the brunch finger food spread that was provided for this party. That was all I did as far as decorations for the food portion of the party- the party host had all the cute white serving dishes and trays already! If you don’t have these on hand though, the Dollar Store, TJ Maxx or Homegoods are a great source for affordable serving dishes!

Lastly, I had the pleasure of creating a custom cake topper and high chair banner for this theme, which was so fun and turned out so cute! We decided on colors to match the theme, with white cupid wings, red heart for “One” and an unfinished wood background. These little pieces turned out so cute that they were added to my etsy shop- available now for purchase (link below)! Eeeek!

Having kids birthdays so close to holidays can be so tricky sometimes. It was super fun to be able to combine the birthday party theme with the holiday itself in a cute, customized way! I hope this gives some inspiration if you have a little one who’s birthday falls near Valentines day, or even just some other ideas for your Galentines or Valentines party!

XOXO
